The Hidden Art
Of Lights And Shadows
Our inspirations

Inspired by centuries of Japanese craftsmanship, our interiors honor the quiet power of nature, tradition, and time.
At Shizuya Studio, our creative process, from initial vision to final realization, is deeply rooted in Japan’s legacy of craftsmanship.
We blend the refined elegance of traditional Machiya with core principles of balanced proportions (和 Wa, harmony in which elements flow without conflict) and the refined, unexpected audacity of 粋 Iki, a discreet yet captivating detail that turns serenity into something irresistibly alive.
Using natural materials such as wood, washi paper, stone, or bamboo, we emphasize the subtle interplay of light and shadow. As Jun'ichirō Tanizaki wrote in In Praise of Shadows, “美は物体にあるのではなく、物体と物体との作り出す陰翳のあや、明暗にあると考える” (“We find beauty not in the thing itself but in the patterns of shadows, the light and the darkness, that one thing against another creates”).
This philosophy shapes every space we design: quiet, authentic interiors where tradition meets modernity.
The language of textures
Texture is the silent language that gives our interiors depth and calm. Each material is chosen for its feel, its durability, and the atmospheric role it plays, composing rooms that feel lived-in and profoundly serene.
